Period of consultation

From 14/03/2017 to 06/06/2017

Context of the consultation

ECICS, the European Customs Inventory of Chemical Substances is an information tool managed by the European Commission's Directorate-General for Taxation and Customs Union (DG TAXUD). ECICS allows users to:

  • clearly and easily identify chemicals;
  • classify them correctly and easily in the Combined Nomenclature; and
  • name them in all EU languages for regulation purposes.

DG TAXUD commissioned an evaluation to assess how well ECICS is performing. The evaluation looked at how well ECICS meets the needs of its users and whether it continues to be justified. The evaluation used five different evaluation criteria for this purpose: effectiveness, efficiency, coherence, sustainability and relevance.

Objective of the consultation

The results will shape the decisions on the future of the database. The consultation only covered the publicly available website, not the secure (CCN/CSI) version of ECICS.

How to submit your contribution

Respondents filled an online questionnaire via the EU Survey Application.

The consultation is now closed.

The full consultation questionnaire is also availiable as pdf file.
