The customs surveillance system is an EU-wide information system to collect, store and analyse data on goods entering, leaving or circulating within the EU. The system helps the EU:
- ensure correct and uniform implementation of the Common Customs Tariff
protect its financial interests and that of its countries
protect the EU from trade not complaint with EU rules, unfair or illegal

How it works
When goods are declared to customs, economic operators provide data on those goods by entering it into their national customs declaration systems. National customs authorities then transmit the relevant surveillance data to the EU (Article 55, Commission Implementing Regulation (EU) 2015/2447) at least once a week.
The data transmitted contains information that includes the volume and origin or destination of goods. The EU's customs surveillance system collects and publishes this data, updating it daily.

Additionally, the regulation allows delayed submission of declaration data on certain occasions. Therefore, the Commission cannot guarantee that the information provided is free of errors.
