What happens to my data?

Confidentiality of the data provided is guaranteed in order to protect your security when carrying cash.
According to Article 8 of the Cash Control Regulation the information shall be protected in the framework of the following data protection provisions:

  • Directive 95/46/EC of the European Parliament and of the Council of 24 October 1995 on the protection of individuals with regard to the processing of personal data and on the free movement of such data,
  • Regulation (EC) No 45/2001 of the European Parliament and of the Council of 18 December 2000 on the protection of individuals with regard to the processing of personal data by the Community institutions and bodies and on the free movement of such data.

Those provisions require authorities to protect the fundamental rights and freedoms of natural persons and in particular their right to privacy with respect to the processing of personal data. Any information concerning an identified or identifiable person that is processed by the competent authorities should be protected.

The information you provide will be made available to the Financial Intelligence Unit (FIU) of the Member State through which you are entering or leaving the EU. FIUs are central agencies set up to monitor financial transactions in order to combat money laundering and terrorist financing.
