Michalis HADJIPANTELA

Michael was born in Famagusta in 1974, with origins from the occupied village of Peristeronopigi. He is a certified accountant, holding a degree in Economics from Thames Valley University of London (BA Hons) and a Master's degree in Economics (MSc Econ) from Queen Mary, University of London. He served his military duty as a Commander in the Armoured Division. He is the founder and former CEO of HMI & Partners Ltd, Chartered Accountants, and a member of the Cyprus, England, and Wales Association of Chartered Accountants (FCA), as well as a member of the Association of International Accountants (AIA). 

As of June 2024, he serves as a Member of the European Parliament, part of the EPP Group. He is a member of the Committees on Budget (BUDG), Economic and Monetary Affairs (ECON), Tax Matters (FISC), Industry, Research and Energy (ITRE), Public Health (SANT) and Environment, Public Health and Food Safety (ENVI).

From July 2021 until February 2023, amid the COVID-19 pandemic, he took on the portfolio of the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Cyprus. Under extremely challenging conditions, the healthcare system remained resilient under his tenure, and Cyprus became a model to follow in Europe. He achieved notable achievements, like the operation of the first Children's Accident and Emergency Department (A&E), the creation of the National Cancer Institute, the establishment of the World Health Organization (WHO) office in Cyprus, the agreement to legally enshrine the Right to Be Forgotten for cancer patients, the upgrade and expansion of the mammography program in all cities, the creation of a dedicated Trauma Center, and the drafting of the medically assisted reproduction bill. 

He has served as the chairman of the Board of Directors of Nicosia Mall, vice-chairman of the Board of Directors of the Electricity Authority of Cyprus and president of the Anorthosis Famagusta Football Club. Additionally, he has taught Economics and Accounting as a visiting lecturer at the European University Cyprus.
