International Customs Day 2020

International Customs Day 2020 takes place on Sunday

On 26 January, the EU celebrates International Customs Day 2020. Customs authorities in the EU Member States work relentlessly to protect the security and safety of our society, fighting against illicit trade while supporting legitimate business activity. Customs authorities also play their role in achieving a climate-neutral EU by 2050, in line with the Paris Agreement. There are various multilateral environmental agreements addressing the illicit trade in hazardous waste and ozone-depleting substances, combating the illicit trade in endangered species and preventing the spread of plant and animal diseases, as well as of invasive alien species. They also ensure that all chemicals, materials, food and other products placed on the European market fully comply with relevant EU regulations and standards. The EU is also supporting developing countries in customs-related issues, in particular in the context of its EU Aid for Trade Strategy, the implementation of the World Trade Organisation Trade Facilitation Agreement and the UN 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development..
