• Late March 2026: Assessment Board Meeting in Tallinn, Estonia
• By 30 September 2026: Final decision communicated by the European Commission
• Conditional approvals: Possible Verification Phase following the assessment meeting

Next steps for new applications

The Recognition process for new applicants is currently concluding the Application Phase and will soon move into the Assessment Phase.

• The European Commission is completing eligibility checks to confirm that submitted programmes meet the required criteria.
• Eligible applications will be reviewed qualitatively by the Assessment Board, a panel of experts who will individually evaluate each submission.
• In late March, the Assessment Board will meet in Tallinn to discuss their evaluations and reach a consensus on each application.
• The Assessment Board’s recommendations can be: full approval, conditional approval (with required actions), or rejection.
• The European Commission will make the final decision by 30 September 2026 and communicate the outcomes to all applicants.

If your application is conditionally approved, a Verification Phase may follow to confirm that all required actions have been completed. This phase is optional and depends on the European Commission’s decision.

Next steps for renewal applications

For universities renewing their recognition, the process is more straightforward:

• The Assessment Board will evaluate the submitted Executive Summary and updated application forms and may request further information if needed.
• During the March meeting, the Assessment Board will decide whether to extend the certificate validity or require re-application based on the significance of any changes to the programme or RTP.
• Renewal decisions will also be communicated by 30 September 2026.

What if my application is rejected?

If your application is rejected, you may re-apply during the next annual cycle. It is important to carefully review any feedback provided and address issues before re-submitting.
