The European Commission welcomes the Council agreement to extend the Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM) to specific downstream goods and reinforce existing anti-circumvention safeguards.

On Thursday 7 May 2026, DG TAXUD hosted the second in a series of webinars on the implementation of the EU’s Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM).

The study provides policy analysis to support the implementation and potential evolution of the Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM).

From 1 July 2026, the EU will apply a temporary €3 customs duty per item on low-value consignments (up to €150) imported from outside the EU, abolishing the duty exemption applicable until 30 June 2026.
